Portrait of Marta: Toonpaint and ArtRage on iPad

Marta B. For JKPP

This is a portrait of Marta B. for Julia Kay’s Portrait Party on Flickr. I used a combination of the Toonpaint app and ArtRage to create this painterly look. Marta’s original photo reminded me of the covers of Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine from the 1980’s. I was also thinking of Wayne Theiboud’s colorful paintings.

Things I Love Thursday: Inkpad Vector Drawing App for IPad

Edie Sedgewick

iPad painting of Edie Sedgewick using Inkpad and ArtRage on iPad

One of my favorite apps right now is Inkpad, a vector based drawing app for the iPad. This app was developed by Steve Sprang who also gave us the amazing Brushes app. I am not familiar at all with vector drawing programs so I am learning as I go along. I found some great tutorials on the Digital Drawer blog, especially this one on creating a neon effect.

I’ve been doing a lot of drawings of retro “bombshells” or iconic movie stars from the 50’s and 60’s because they seem to lend themselves to the more graphic style of Inkpad. I’ve also been experimenting with combining the Inkpad drawing with other apps such as ArtRage and PicGrunger to give more texture to the drawings and give them more of a collage feeling. Which version do you like best?

Moleskine Sketchbook Drawing From Dr. Sketchy’s Does Warhol’s Factory

Sketchy Blog.

This is a photo taken from the Dr. Sketchy’s blog of the Moleskines sketchbook that I won a couple months ago at the Dr. Sketchy’s does Warhol’s Factory.  The drawing is of “Marilyn with Canary Yellow Hair” and here is a link to another  iPad collage of Marilyn.  Drawing at Dr. Sketchy’s for the last nine months has really been a highlight of my year.  The models were always beautiful and the setups were always interesting.  I can’t wait to see what they have planned for 2011!
