Boonton Arts Dog Days of Summer

Last month when I went to Boonton’s First Friday I took some quick Hipstamatic iPhone photos of Boonton Arts’ Dog Days of Summer, a public art installation showcasing artists’ custom designs on life sized fiberglass dog sculptures displayed along Boonton’s Main Street. I love the creativity of the dogs, especially the use of the wild colors.  The exhibit is up until October 10th, when the dogs will be up for “adoption” with proceeds benefiting Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, Montville Animal Shelter and future Boonton Arts community projects.

Freedy Johnston and Jeffrey Gaines at the Van Vleck House in Montclair, New Jersey

Last weekend I saw Freedy Johnston and Jeffrey Gaines perform at the Van Vleck House in Montclair, New Jersey. The event was part of Out Post in The Burbs, an organization that holds musical events in the Montclair area.
The Van Vleck House and Gardens was a beautiful place to hear music. We were able to take a quick walk around the garden before the show, where I was able to take couple Hipstamatic iPhone photos. The atmosphere was calm and serene, with butterflies flitting around while the music was playing.

I enjoyed the music of both the performers and the stories they told between the songs. Amazingly (and luckily) the weather held out until the very last song.  I am hoping to visit the Van Vleck House again to explore the gardens a little more and get more photos.

First Friday at Mobile Digital Art and More on Boonton, NJ

I am very fortunate to be an exhibiting artist at Mobile Digital Art and More in Boonton, New Jersey. The gallery is owned by David Scott Leibowitz, one of the first mobile artists that I originally met online. The gallery features artwork by some of the original mobile artists who started on iPhones and iPod Touch, and later the iPad.

Once a month Boonton has First Friday where the galleries have openings and musicians play along the street. Last month I did some live iPad art in front of the gallery. Everyone who stopped by to watch was very friendly and the night just flew by. There is a great vibe in Boonton, and I’m really looking forward to many more First Fridays.

The Grand Ball Starring Aurelio Voltaire

Last weekend I went to the Grand Ball at QXT’s in Newark, New Jersey. Even though I had seen Voltaire at his Necrocomicom last year, this was my first time seeing him perform. He is an incredible performer, and his stories between songs really left an impression on me. As described on his website:

Voltaire (Aurelio Voltaire Hernandez) is often described as a modern day renaissance man. He is a singer/ performer, creator of comic books, animation and toys.
