Sunset @ the Park

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
― Mother Teresa

New Moo Stickers in my Etsy Shop and Contest

Yay! Moo stickers and mini case

I am very excited about the new stickers I ordered from Moo! I have put them in my Etsy shop and I am having a mini contest to give one set away. To enter please leave a comment on my blog here with a suggestion for a subject for one of my Inkpad portraits. I am looking for retro, kooky, kitchy or glam actresses, actors, musicians, artists or anyone you find visually interesting. I will pick a winner at random on Friday night. Good luck!

Tifa Lockhart – Dr. Sketchy NNJ at Blick Art Materials

Tifa Lockhart: Dr. Sketchy NNJ

This is another iPad painting from the amazing Dr. Sketchy session at Blick Art Materials in New Jersey. The model, Scarlet Stepford was posing as Tifa Lockhart from the video game Final Fantasy. In this picture I used Sketchbook Pro and ArtRage on the iPad.

Officer Jenny – Dr. Sketchy NNJ at Blick Art Materials

Officer Jenny: Dr. Sketchy NNJ

Last weekend I went to a fun Dr. Sketchy session at Blick Art Materials in New Jersey. The model, Scarlet Stepford, dressed in several different anime and comic book inspired costumes. Her Officer Jenny (from Pokemon) costume was one of my favorites, especially the bright blue wig. Along with the drawings I did I also took some Hipstamatic reference photos to work from at home. I used Sketchbook Mobile and imported the image into ArtRage to give it the painterly textures. I was thinking of Wayne Thiebaud’s painting and his use of thick, colorful brushstrokes.

Dr. Sketchy NNJ At Blick Art Materials in New Jersey

Scarlet @ dr. Sketchy NNJ at Blick Art Supplies

I had a fantastic time yesterday drawing at the Dr. Sketchy NNJ session at Blick Art Materials in Paramus, New Jersey. This was a free three hour session featuring the model Scarlet Stepford in a variety of Comic Book and Anime costumes. I actually won a beautiful set of Blick Pastels for one of my drawings (my first time winning a prize at Dr. Sketchy’s)! I really loved Scarlet’s choice of cosplay costumes. I will be posting some drawings soon after I’ve had a chance to scan them in. Having a drawing session at an art supply store is a great idea because if you run out of something you can pick up new supplies during the break. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

I had a special request from a Flickr friend for a portrait of Deborah Kerr. If you have a favorite vintage movie star or pin up model you would like to see me do a portrait of please leave a suggestion in the comments. I’m always looking for some new inspiration.

Things I Love Thursday: The Faile Mural at Houston and Bowery, NYC

Faile mural at Houston and Bowery, NYC

Over the weekend I stopped by the Faile Mural at Houston and Bowery in New York. Faile is an art collective working out of Brooklyn. I took some pictures before and after the Godzilla themed Dr. Sketchy session at the Bowery Poetry Club, just down the street from the mural. I really love the imagery that they used and the way it looks like ripped and torn away signs. I think this mural will only be up for a short while, so check it out while you can.
