This is a digital drawing of a Steampunk Pixie at the 2016 Steampunk World’s Fair in New Jersey. I used the Inkpad vector app on my iPad. I also used the Percolator app to create the patterns in her dress, and then used Sketchbook Pro combine the drawings.

I discovered Frenchy & the Punk quite by accident at the 2014 Steampunk World’s Fair. I watched their Sunday afternoon concert and couldn’t believe how amazing they were and wondered why I hadn’t heard of them before that day. I bought their CD “Hey Hey Cabaret” at their merch stand and listened to it almost every day for a month thereafter. I’ve found that a nice way to relive an event such as the SPWF is to purchase some of the music that I listened to (and it supports the artists also).
Their music as described on their website:
Imagine Siouxsie Sioux and Dee Dee Ramone had a duo that was inspired by Django Reinhardt, Edith Piaf, Toulouse Lautrec and Deepak Chopra, this is what it might sound like. One part Dresden Dolls, Sonny and Cher and one part White Stripes. A pixie spirited flexitarian band of tree hugging, gothic, folky, Steam Punks by way of Paris and New York. Doused in red wine, kale and granola, raised on punk rock and ballet, eclectic and uplifting… fun with a capital F!
I attended the Steampunk Worlds Fair in Piscataway, New Jersey back in May. I have been interested in Steampunk culture, especially the music, fashion and how to use it in my art. I started taking photos of people dressed in their steampunk finery about three years ago and I am working on an ongoing multimedia project using these photos.
These photos were taken using the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone. I am using the Tinto 1884 lens and the C-Type Plate film to give the photos an antiqued Tintype look. The Tinto 1884 lens seems to focus on the eyes to give the photos an otherwordly look. Since one of the themes of Steampunk culture is time travel, I want to give the photos the look of something that is out of time, or timeless.

I am always amazed by the creativity of the costumes and the themes. Some people are mixing cosplay with steampunk with some incredible results! I am already looking forward to next year’s World’s Fair which will be held May 13 through 15, 2016.
I was fortunate to have my photo taken by Babette Daniels at the Steampunk World’s Fair last weekend. You can view a gallery of more of her photos from that weekend here. I love her vibrant colors and the way the subjects show off their costumes in such creative ways.
